Las Vegas hotel prices: why a Tuesday room is a third of a Saturday room

No other city prices hotels like Las Vegas. The same Strip room can be $79 on Tuesday and $299 on Saturday of the same week. Understanding why is the whole game.

The weekday effect

Weekend demand is leisure and it is enormous; midweek demand is conventions, which come and go. Sunday to Thursday nights are consistently cheapest unless a major convention is in town. If your dates are flexible, shifting a trip to start on Sunday can halve the hotel bill.

The convention calendar

CES in January, big trade shows through spring and autumn, and major fights or F1 weekends push even midweek rates up. Check the Las Vegas Convention Center calendar before booking; a quiet week is the cheapest Vegas gets.

Resort fees

Almost every Strip property adds $35–$55 a night in resort fees, and booking sites display them differently. A $79 room is a $124 room. Compare the checkout total across sites, not the headline.

Strip vs off-Strip

Downtown Fremont Street hotels are older, cheaper and lively. Off-Strip properties a short rideshare away often have lower resort fees or none. Summerlin and Henderson are suburban and quiet.

Booking window

Vegas is one of the few markets where last-minute can pay: unsold midweek inventory gets discounted heavily. For weekends and event dates, book early.
